To Relegate: To assign to a place of insignificance or of oblivion. ie. To put out of sight or mind.
Friends, unfortunately, many of us are in jobs that don’t deserve us, yet we settled for them. Many of us are in relationships with people who don’t deserve us and we settled for them because we relegated ourselves. Still alot of us are living a life that is far below our standards. So many times and in so many ways, we involve ourselves with things that water down our value.
We literally have relegated ourselves to lower standards. So why do people practice self relegation? There are basically 3 reasons:
1. The failure to stick to principles or to stick to our standards, independent of the forces that would want us to compromise.
2. Lacking the Patience to wait for things to align in terms of what belongs to us.
3. Failure to work towards the outcomes we want to realise. Truth be told, working towards things that are of high standard can be quite hard.
Now they say that if you don’t stand for something, you will fall (relegate yourself) for anything. This is true. Therefore friends, my encouragement to you today is simply this: Never lower your standards for anything or for anyone. Avoid compromise when it comes to your values.
Self-relegation makes you cheap. It is shameful and it brings embarrassment. Therefore, If you self-relegate, you will be like the prodigal son in the Bible who ended up eating food meant for swine when he actually came from a very well to do family where they ate the choicest cuisines.
Friends, always be in places where you are celebrated. Avoid places where you are just tolerated because people often tolerate what is relegated and they celebrate what they value.
