“I think am over it! Yet am not! I still cry over it from time to time. I still allow the scars to influence my decisions. The past hurt has quietly become my biggest insecurity and my silent struggle, yet I won’t admit it!”

If you can relate to the above, probably what happened in your past is still messing with you, and your progress has been held captive. Past hurts do compromise and corrupt personal growth. They ruin us quietly and harm us in such a way that we ourselves defend their negative impact in us to the extent that we actually prefer to think that we are past it.

You may still be scared emotionally or psychologically and it could be why your relationships or marriages fail. It could be why you can’t see progress in business or at work. It could be why you don’t get along with certain friends, family or even your children.

It may be a childhood scar, a career or business betrayal scar, a relationship — marriage — divorce scar, a church betrayal scar or even a sexual abuse scar. Etc. and every time something happens to remind you of your past hurt, you struggle.

Until you are totally past it all, you will not progress. Until you move on from whatever happened in your past, your progress will be held Captive. Ignoring it or shutting it out won’t make it go away. Deal with it because your progress depends on it.
